35% Growth in Remittances to El Salvador with Cryptocurrencies by 2026
Between January and July 2026, El Salvador received $41.1 million in remittances through cryptocurrencies, representing a 35.6% increase compared to the same period the previous year. In total, the country received $5.924 billion in family remittances, a growth of 3.7% compared to $5.714 billion in 2025. Despite the increase, digital remittances only account for 0.7% of the total, being surpassed by commercial banking and traditional remittance companies, which handle over 99% of the operations. In the first four months of 2026, the digital channel recorded a year-on-year growth of 44.3%, accumulating $23.1 million, but an additional $18 million was added between May and July.
