APA Hotel has launched a test connecting artificial intelligence (AI) travel recommendations with payments using the yen stablecoin JPYC. The goal is to reduce the inconvenience of local spending for foreign visitors from check-in to restaurant reservations, cultural experiences, and payments. UPBOND announced that starting in June 2026, it will operate a test in collaboration with Japan Ticket to guide tourism experiences and restaurant reservations. Since April 2026, UPBOND has been providing pre-check-in and AI agent services for foreign visitors at APA Hotel. This demonstration aims to address the issue of travelers being unable to finalize their local itineraries or local businesses not effectively communicating their content to foreigners. Guests can check and book restaurants and experience products suggested by the AI agent. Payments will be made through a partnership with JPYC, and UPBOND plans to offer an integrated flow from interactive reservations to payments. UPBOND's foundational service, Login 3.0, has around 1 million wallet users and over 4,000 active users daily. Mizooka Shun, the representative of UPBOND, emphasized that the travel experience for foreign visitors does not end with hotel check-in but begins there. This test combines the accommodation flow of a large hotel chain with local tourism products and yen stablecoin payments, showcasing a different approach from previous convenience store payment experiments.

U.S. major indexes closed lower yesterday. Walmart’s weaker-than-expected same-store sales and guidance weighed on the consumer sector and dragged the three major averages lower. Silver and platinum rose sharply, supported by lower yields from expanded long-bond buybacks and a softer dollar. Bitcoin climbed toward $75,000, lifting crypto-related equities. Markets are now focused on the August S&P Global Manufacturing and Services PMI flash readings due on August 21 U.S. Eastern Time, which will directly influence September rate-path pricing.

Expanded U.S. Treasury long-bond buybacks helped pull yields lower and supported a modest rebound in risk appetite, with the major indexes closing slightly higher. At the same time, Bitcoin briefly rose above $70,000 and lifted crypto-linked equities, while positive Phase 3 vaccine data from Merck and Moderna pushed healthcare and biotech stocks higher. SK Hynix’s large-scale buyback also kept attention on the storage cycle and AI-related demand. Markets are continuing to digest the relatively hawkish Fed minutes while positioning ahead of earnings from Alibaba and Walmart.

Bitcoin and Ethereum surged in a historic 24-hour rally that added $190 billion to the crypto market and triggered $2.98 billion in liquidations. Here's what Treasury buybacks, a massive short squeeze, and new SEC rules mean for traders on WEEX.
