Barcelona Embraces AI: The AI Summit Concludes a Busy September
A week after the European Blockchain Convention, Barcelona is back in the technology spotlight. The AI Summit Barcelona is taking place on September 22-23, 2026, at the World Trade Center on the port. This is only the second edition, but it has grand ambitions: to grow from 1,500 participants last year to over 10,000 this year, featuring NVIDIA, Google, Microsoft, and Anthropic. Here’s what you need to know.
In Brief
- The AI Summit Barcelona 2026 is held on September 22-23 at the World Trade Center Barcelona.
- Second edition: the organizer aims for 10,000+ participants and 200+ speakers, compared to ~1,500 in 2025.
- The program includes NVIDIA, Google, Microsoft, AWS, Anthropic, Hugging Face, SAP, Databricks under the slogan "Beyond Theory. AI in Action".
- The summit anchors AI Week Barcelona: around fifty satellite events and a hackathon with 500 participants focused on agent architectures.
A Summit Betting on AI "in Action", Not on Forecasting
The positioning is clear, and it contrasts with major futuristic gatherings. The AI Summit Barcelona aims to showcase AI in action: live demonstrations, workshops, and production use cases rather than prediction panels. The program is organized into several tracks—construction, technical foundations, growth, impact—spread across about ten stages, with an Experience Village and a Workshop Village.
The list of announced companies sets the tone: NVIDIA, Google, Microsoft, AWS, SAP, Databricks, Hugging Face, Anthropic. Among the confirmed speakers is Chema Alonso, Vice President of Cloudflare. The event is organized by AI Events Barcelona, a structure founded by Guillaume Rostand—also the president of French Tech Barcelona—alongside entrepreneurs Adam Hruska and Tanguy Wyncker.
One figure should be handled with caution: the 10,000 participants are a target, not a reality. The first edition in 2025 gathered around 1,500 at the Glovo Campus. The leap is spectacular—and, as with any rapidly growing event, it will be the actual attendance on-site that matters, not the pre-program estimate.
Why a Crypto Media is Interested: The AI × Web3 Bridge
The question is legitimate: what is Cointribune doing at a summit dedicated to artificial intelligence? The answer lies in a word that has become central on both sides: agents. The official hackathon, hosted at Norrsken House with 500 participants, focuses precisely on agent-oriented architectures—the same ground as the autonomous on-chain agents stirring the Web3 ecosystem. Agent payments, oracles, automated execution: the two worlds are converging, and Barcelona is bringing them together in the same city within a week.
The summit also serves as a spearhead for AI Week Barcelona, a week of around fifty satellite events scattered throughout the city. For a French-speaking reader, the active presence of the French Tech Barcelona community facilitates networking on-site. It’s less a crypto conference than an observation point: where applied AI increasingly intersects with decentralized infrastructure.
One overarching reading remains: by concentrating, over about fifteen days, an institutional blockchain convention followed by the largest AI gathering in Southern Europe, Barcelona is testing a hypothesis—that of a shared audience of builders circulating between on-chain finance and artificial intelligence. September 22-23 will reveal whether the attendance gamble holds. The rest will be judged by the projects emerging from the workshops, not by attendance figures.
