Iran and Oman Plan to Establish Temporary Maritime Corridor in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran and Oman issued a joint statement indicating that Omani Foreign Minister Buseidi and Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian held consultations to discuss the restoration of safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. During the consultations, a phased implementation framework was proposed, planning to establish a temporary joint maritime corridor in the Strait of Hormuz and to implement a joint project for clearing mines in the strait. Both sides will continue technical discussions, aiming to reach a consensus on a permanent maritime corridor, management methods for the strait, and a mechanism for exchanging traffic management information. They emphasized the importance of joint dialogue with the countries along the Persian Gulf and adherence to international law, while respecting the sovereign rights of coastal nations.
