Japanese Government Aims to Become Asia's Blockchain Hub by Investing in Web3 Startups

The Japanese government has expressed its intention to become the center of Asia's blockchain by investing in Web3 startups. Japan's three major megabanks forecast that stablecoins and on-chain finance will change the way companies manage their funds. Sanae Takaichi, Japan's Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, announced on the 13th at Asia's largest Web3 conference, 'WebX 2026' held in Tokyo, that funding support for Web3 startups will be expanded. This is interpreted as a positive signal from the Japanese government towards its own Web3 and blockchain companies. Major Japanese banks are also preparing for the changes, with Michiko Hitani, a director at Mizuho Financial Group, explaining that if an on-chain financial infrastructure that allows for 24/7 payments is established, it will transform both corporate fund management and banking services.
