Jared Kushner, a senior advisor to the U.S. President, discussed the implementation of a ceasefire roadmap with Hamas political leader Khalil al-Hayya in Egypt. Kushner met with al-Hayya on the 16th and is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the 17th. Officials from mediating countries, including Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, also attended the meeting. The core issues of this contact are the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, with a 15-point roadmap supported by the U.S. encompassing both matters. The negotiation period for implementing the roadmap will begin once all parties approve the proposal. After the meeting, Hamas stated that the mediating countries and the U.S.-led peace committee should pressure Israel to approve the roadmap. Hamas demanded a halt to Israel's attacks on Gaza and the return to the 'Yellow Line.' The Yellow Line refers to the boundary of Israeli military control within Gaza, where Israeli forces currently control about 60% of the area. Prime Minister Netanyahu has publicly rejected parts of the U.S. roadmap, while Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan have claimed that Israel's rejection hinders peace efforts in Gaza. The White House did not provide a separate statement regarding Kushner's meeting. Discussions on the Gaza ceasefire could impact geopolitical risks in the Middle East and the sentiment towards risk assets.
