Mongolia Faces Fuel Shortage Due to Problems in Russia

Mongolia is experiencing a fuel shortage as nearly 95% of gasoline and diesel is imported from Russia. The country is seeing long queues at gas stations, and restrictions on fuel sales were introduced in August. Fuel prices have risen to $1.5-2 per liter, while in spring they were around $1. The Russian ban on the export of gasoline and diesel does not affect Mongolia due to intergovernmental agreements. From January to July, supplies of Russian diesel fuel to Mongolia increased by 7% to 1.05 million tons, while gasoline exports rose to 515,000 tons. Russia is also facing fuel shortages in several regions, including Astrakhan and Volgograd. Major Russian oil companies have limited sales of gasoline at gas stations. Ukrainian attacks have disabled up to 40% of Russia's oil refining capacity, exacerbating the fuel crisis.
