Russian Central Bank Registers 2,600 Suspicious Wallets
The Central Bank of Russia has registered 2,600 suspicious wallets linked to illegal financial activities in an information system used by banks and law enforcement agencies. According to data on combating illegal financial activities for the first half of 2026, the funds flowing into these wallets exceeded 1 billion rubles. This system is utilized for customer risk assessment and financial investigations. If a connection between the registered wallets and transactions is confirmed, related bank transactions may be restricted. In the first half of 2026, there were 2,891 entities showing signs of illegal financial activities, which is about a 31% decrease compared to the same period last year, but similar to the previous half-year. There were 929 entities showing signs of financial pyramid schemes, and 379 entities showing signs of illegal investment solicitation. Cryptocurrencies have been used as a means of receiving funds for illegal investments and fraudulent projects, with over 74% of cases showing signs of financial pyramid schemes utilizing cryptocurrencies. Recently, the Central Bank of Russia has shown movements to regulate cryptocurrency transactions and storage within the legal framework, focusing on identifying and sharing wallets and internet resources used for illegal financial activities.
