Russian Ministry of Finance Reduces Confiscated Property Sale Period to 44 Days

The Russian Ministry of Finance proposes to shorten the sale period for confiscated property from 100 to 44 days amid a growing federal budget deficit. This will allow for quicker revenue generation from seized vehicles and equipment, as well as reduce storage costs. Analysts estimate potential revenues from these sales at no more than 2 billion rubles per year. Changes include reducing the application time after price reductions, shortening the payment period, requiring a deposit from bidders, and transferring the right to purchase to the next participant without a repeat auction. The new rules apply to seized vehicles, equipment, and goods that have become state property, and are set to take effect on July 1, 2027. In the first half of 2026, revenues from confiscated property amounted to approximately 806 million rubles, which is 42% less than in the same period of 2025. The federal budget deficit of the Russian Federation reached 5.7 trillion rubles in the first half of the year, against an annual plan of 3.79 trillion rubles.
