SlowMist: The Qubic-controlled Monero mining power ratio is still questionable and difficult to prove
BlockBeats News, August 13th: SlowMist founder Di Xie commented on the Monero 51% attack incident, stating that the community has many doubts about whether it is a true 51% attack in essence, but there is no doubt about block reorganization (such as 6 blocks). The Qubic mining pool claims to control 51% of the hash power, but many community members believe they control approximately 33% of the hash power. This controversy is not easy to verify, and to prove a 51% attack decisively, a double-spending attack test must be carried out.
Previously reported, IOTA co-founder Sergey Ivancheglo's project Qubic rapidly accumulated a large amount of Monero hash power through the "useful Proof of Work (uPoW)" mechanism. On August 12th, Qubic briefly controlled 52.72% of the Monero network's hash rate (approximately 3.01 GH/s). Once exceeding 51%, Qubic could reject blocks from other pools, leading to chain reorganization, double-spending, or transaction censorship. The Monero community has initiated resistance and defense actions, while Qubic stated that this was a technical demonstration and not a malicious attack.
