South Korean court orders YouTuber Choi to repay 20 million won in crypto fraud case
A South Korean court has ordered YouTuber Choi Seung-jung to repay a victim's full investment of 20 million won plus interest in a civil case related to the Golden Goal coin. Choi, indicted for fraud involving tens of billions of won, claimed in court that he was also a victim. However, in a damages suit filed by a victim six months ago, the court ruled in February that Choi must repay the full investment. The victim invested 20 million won in 2021 based on Choi's promises of principal protection and an exchange listing, neither of which occurred. The victim subsequently filed the damages suit last year. Hong Pureun, managing partner at Descent Law Office, noted that the ruling is being used as evidence in favor of victims in other ongoing lawsuits. One victim of the Golden Goal coin stated that Choi appears to have moved out substantial funds, with asset checks revealing nothing. Choi's next hearing is scheduled for October 23.
