Tether is pushing for the launch of a basic artificial intelligence (AI) app aimed at users in developing countries. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that smartphones have become prevalent even in impoverished areas, and simple AI models can run on devices. The app will cover areas such as health, finance, and sports, allowing general users to utilize smartphone-based AI tools. The key feature is on-device AI that does not rely on cloud servers, enabling AI functionalities to be executed directly on user devices. Tether has proposed a structure through QVAC that allows AI apps and agents to run on user devices. In the health sector, it introduced QVAC Health, which handles wearable devices and health records in an encrypted environment, with some features available offline. However, it clarified that QVAC Health does not provide medical advice for disease diagnosis or treatment purposes. Tether's global user base has surpassed 650 million, and it is preparing AI apps for developing countries. Ardoino mentioned developing countries as the primary market for the AI app, interpreting this as a strategy to expand touchpoints with the existing user base. In May of this year, Tether also announced a grant program to support local device-centric AI and payment infrastructure developers. Individual grants are proposed to range from $1,500 to $4,000, aimed at expanding the on-device AI and payment infrastructure ecosystem. However, Ardoino did not disclose a specific revenue model for the AI app business.
