Tim Cook Owns Crypto, Apple Has Not Purchased Bitcoin
Tim Cook, who will leave his position as Apple CEO on September 1, has never included Bitcoin on the company's balance sheet. John Ternus, who will succeed him, has not publicly stated his stance on the matter. In a 2021 New York Times DealBook event, Cook acknowledged owning crypto but ruled out Apple investing in it, stating that Apple shareholders do not seek crypto exposure. As of June 27, Apple held 146.5 billion dollars in cash and marketable securities, raising ongoing questions about potential investments. Since Cook's comments, Bitcoin reached a record near 68991 dollars and traded around 77244 dollars recently, while Apple shares rose approximately 82% from 175.35 dollars at the end of 2021 to 319.70 dollars. Ternus, a hardware engineer with 25 years of experience in devices, will take over while Cook remains as executive chairman. Apple's focus is on services, which generated 30.7 billion dollars last quarter, and Apple Pay facilitates card transactions rather than crypto tokens. In 2025, there were reports of Apple exploring stablecoins to reduce settlement costs, but no confirmation or implementation has occurred. Cook has consistently maintained his position on crypto, while Ternus has yet to address the topic.
