August Employment Report to Be Released on September 4, Impacting Fed's Rate Decision
The U.S. non-farm employment report for August will be released at 8:30 AM Eastern Time on September 4. Following a decrease of 23,000 jobs in July, if the August figures also show weakness, it could become a significant variable in the Federal Reserve's rate decision. Non-farm employment reflects changes in employment excluding the agricultural sector, and the Fed must consider both inflation and employment simultaneously. Bloomberg's chief economist Anna Wong mentioned that there is a possibility of a decline in August employment, stating that there has been no modern precedent for a rate hike after two consecutive months of job losses. The St. Louis Federal Reserve explained that July employment fell short of expectations. The drop in the unemployment rate in July was largely attributed to a decrease in labor force participation. The Fed is facing a challenging situation in maintaining a balance between inflation and employment, with the September FOMC meeting scheduled for September 15-16. The August employment report will serve as the first gateway for the Fed's judgment.
