Due to the loss of access to Black Sea ports, Ukraine is facing a logistics crisis. Alternative land routes are providing only one third of the necessary volume of agricultural products. In August 2026, exports via alternative routes will amount to about 1.5 million tons, while the need is 5 million tons per month. Even in an optimistic scenario, land logistics will cover no more than 50% of the needs. Ukraine has proposed to Poland to increase the number of trains from 300,000 to 600,000 tons per month. A key condition is round-the-clock border control. Representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia and the Polish company PKP have agreed on steps to eliminate queues and attract investments in infrastructure. The situation is more complicated than in 2022: financial and logistical reserves of farmers have been depleted, there is no price increase for grain, and European logistics capacities are overloaded. To reduce pressure on the corridors, the government will stimulate products with added value. The cargo flow through railway crossings with Poland has fallen to 9.7 million tons, with volumes decreasing by 7% in the first seven months of 2026.
