Pedestrian Traffic Changes Near Bessarabsky Square in Kyiv

In Kyiv, the pedestrian traffic scheme around Bessarabsky Square will be changed, adding six new pedestrian crossings and reconstructing two existing ones. The underground crossings through the 'Metrogard' shopping center will be duplicated with surface crossings to enhance convenience and accessibility. The new crossings will be located across Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, Bessarabsky Passage, and the streets of Bolshaya Vasilykovskaya and Basseynaya. A new traffic organization scheme has been approved. The crossings will be equipped with traffic lights, lowered curbs, tactile strips, and buttons for audible traffic light signals, making movement easier for people with disabilities and those with limited mobility. A surface crossing and an additional sidewalk will also be arranged on Bessarabsky Passage near 'Arena City'. Traffic lanes will be redistributed, and a regulated entrance to the underground parking will be created. The crossing between Bessarabsky Market and the Steep Descent will be updated, adding parking for cars of people with disabilities. The project includes bicycle crossings. After the project is completed, pedestrians will be able to cross the streets at surface crossings, creating a barrier-free route around Bessarabsky Square.
